Are all the anime's you guys watch girly and weird?
I was kinda hoping for more variety, preferably dark and moody ones like X.
I do admit that i left early as i couldn't stand anymore sqeaky randomness so if something moody and weird was screened after i left, my apologies.

um...no? when did you leave? FMA's shounen...and though it hasn't got there yet, the next few eps are rather dark. fruits basket i admit is very girly. ;D azumanga... okay, I guess that falls under the weird category.
slayers... okay, yea, that too. but that's not the usual! and after that it was gungrave (def not girly, was... dunno, guns and fights and stuff. I always thought it looked cool, but the first ep was quite boring =( ) um, and after that it was read or die, which, despite having female main charcters... isn't exactly girly, as it's blatantly aimed at guys. (look, bouncing boobs! lesbian overtones!)
but yeah, x is good. i've been meaning to bring it in sometime... though it moves quite slowly, esp at the begining. (although, i have to say, x is shoujo too, and is v girly in some respects...)

i left around 9, so afer full metal alchemist, fruits basket and an insanely annoying one with a young year old girl and a bunch of other people having a holiday.
Good to hear that that isn't all there is though. In the unlikely event that i make it again, i'll have to stay to the end.
btw, what does shoujo mean?

ahh, you didn't like azumanga daioh then ^^; shame, that seems to be really popular... guess it is pretty distinctive though.
shoujo is generally used as a genre name... for manga/anime aimed at girls. Most CLAMP stuff is. =)

Just to apologise for Slayers - sadly it got voted in last week and we didn't get around to watching it, so it had to be done. At least it is out of the way now and we will never never watch it again. (Richard - that means you cannot bring episode 2 ok? ) I too would like there to be more...less girly stuff! I loved Fruits Basket when I first watched it, but now I can see that it's kind of predictable and...hmm. Anyway, if you want to see different stuff, bring it along! You need to have a good little description ready which will inspire the masses to vote for it!

Chrno Crusade? Last Exile? I think i might have to bring some along next time!!! Slayers was god damn awful!

Leaving early is never a good thing really. We ended up watching Gungrave and Read or Die of which one is really dark and the other was just cool with a hint of violence. If you dont like whats being shown then read some manga or go to the old bar for a bit with other people that share your feelings.
At some point next semester ill have to bring monster in for the people that are into dark animes.
Whats the general idea about dark animes and instead of just complaining about animes you dont like hows about bringing in some dark stuff

Heh, actually that was completely seperate from the series. The actual series is varied, bit of humor, lot of action, and gets downright dark at spots... What that was is... Well, more like Slayers light. I would have brought the series, but since of the new downloading restrictions at Bretton (they don't allow peer to peer anymore here) and because my collection is in another country I hadn't the opportunity to bring the real stuff in.
Though through watching Azumanga and Read or Die I have come to a rather interesting theory.. I believe that the Paper from Read or Die is in all actuality Osaka from Azumanga all grown up. Both are air heads, both know lots of random facts, and they both look somewhat alike (though I suppose you could say this about most anime girls...)

Why don't i don't bring in any anime of my own? Amazingly enough, i don't own any anime, and i doubt i'm the only one in the same situation. I have been interested in it for about 6 months so i haven't a clue what is out there, let alone bought any. That is why i joined your little society, so i can develop the interest, watch a few things and begin a collection. Isn't that the point of the society? to allow everyone to share their interests?
Unless i'm mistaken, this society is open to all, even the most anime illiterate, so saying if you don't like it then piss off or bring your own isn't exactly productive.
All i meant to do with my post was ask a simple question. It wasn't easy for me to make the time to go to last Thursdays screening, regretably my 1st one this semester, and i left early out of disappointment. I needed to know if what i saw was all that i could expect because if it was, then i wouldn't have to kick myself for missing a screening again. It was never a complaint aimed at the society, so don't take it that way.

Ok, fair point. The society is a mix of people who are hardcore fans with tons of stuff, and those who are just starting to get into it. In lieu of bring your own stuff, how about you make a thread in Anime Discussion, asking about what animes people would recommend that you would enjoy. Then you can ask them to bring them to the meeting. Obviously I understand that the point of the society is to introduce you to new things; that is why we have people bring stuff along. However, we can only show what gets voted, and if the silly stuff gets voted in, it wouldn't be very fair if I stepped in and pulled a presidential veto (though my god, how very tempting the idea can get!). Like I said, I am actively encouraging people to bring more varied stuff in, and hopefully the voters will be more accepting of fresh genres etc. So please don't give up on us! (If you really dislike FMA, FB and Azumanga that much, you can always turn up late, as those three will be watched first. However, you do then risk missing any interesting stuff that gets announced, or chatting along to fellow members.) And oi, it's not a "little society" anymore thankyou very much. We've worked very hard to entice new people in!
