Hiya,
Just to say - from this week we will be checking you've got your membership cards, so please don't forget them.
For non-members it'll be a 50p charge (I just made that up and will discuss with the committee later on to decide on a suitable charge). This money will go towards society stuff, so it's all for the best in the end. If you happen to forget your card you will have to grovel for your life we've got a list so we can check your name against it to see if you've paid.
We'll be watching
Full Metal Alchemist Azumanga Daioh Fruits Basket
Plus some other stuff - so bring your things along if you think it's worth watching! We've still got space for one more "permanent series" and we'd like it to be a serious/non-highschooly type one if possible.
We're in the Conference Room as usual, I think we're still going to be fucked with the lights (GRRHRHRHR!) and we have the wonderful Starsailor entertaining us from below - joy.
Japanic afterwards if anyone fancies it.
(Have to confess I will be sneaking off before the end to do some salssssssa! Hurrah!)

Um... you mean Fullmetal Alchemist? =p Got really confused for a minute there (what?! when did we start watching FMP? XP) Eh, sounds fair enough. ^^ Shame about the lights (and starsailor, bah) but hopefully at least this week we'll be able to use the proper speakers from the beginning...=p

Oops, yeah, Full Metal Alchemist, sorry. I always write the wrong one!
Well, we (Steven and I) have spoken/emailed a number of people about the lights, still no feed back.

will be there...do you want me to bring Bleach/Eva/Samurai Champloo/ a decent copy of fruits basket episode 2? Let me know tonight or tomorrow morning and I will do.
We can't show movies in the slots, can we? Because I have Kai Doh Maru, Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll etc etc. I might bring Love Hina for one of the guest slots.

On official DVDs:
It's good to have them, to show we have a legal copy, yes. However, I think it should be kept in mind that my laptop is now set to region 1. (ie, american DVDs.) If it gets changed back again, that's it. So I'd quite like to request that if people have good quality fansubs of the shows they want to get played, to please bring those instead. (unless it's a region 1 DVD) because otherwise we're pretty limited... and video files are a pretty universal format that my laptop can happily play.
Is that okay, Lizzie? I don't like to give preference to fansubs, but otherwise it'll get really awkward with only being able to play one region of DVD.
I'll probably bring a mixture of shows again, but there's only a couple I'm really interested in getting shown.

That sounds ok - we'll see how it goes though, is there not some kind of player that plays region 1 and 2 equally? But for now - If anyone has better quality Fruitsbasket subs and FMA then that would be great. (I've got the FMA dvd, though I think it might be Region 2 and it's at home until I get back from Reading Week). No movies in the free slots - no time! We might set up some weekend/extra showings for movies. (But have to say that Kai Doh Maru is freaky and bizarre and never again!)

well, yes - so if anyone has a multiregion DVD player they could bring, I'm sure they'd be loved by all! ;D But as far as laptops go, not really... the hardware is encoded so that you can only change regions a certain number of times before it locks.
And, true... we haven't had any marathons yet this term, either! =p

Hey, is your laptop a PC laptop? Because if so, you can get software that allows you to play any region DVD without effecting the region changes settings. I'm trying to get hold of one now for you, if it works I will bring it tonight.
I will bring a better fansub of Fruits Basket too
EDIT: found it, it's a program that runs in the background and lets you play any region DVD on any DVD playing software. I'll bring it if you want it.

ill try find you the links, but thenm you can watch any format anyone brings in divx ogm anything , and any region dvd. if i remember ill get the software and put it on a usb pen- whats your dvd drive?manufacter etc

Ooh, actually, it's okay - I found a nifty program which seems to solve the problem. ^^ Don't know why it didn't occur to me... some computing student I am! XP But thanks for all the suggestions, we should be good for showing any DVD now ;D

Excellent! Glad that's all sorted now.
Also, I know what you mean about the FB official subs - why do official subbers always use that horrible yellow and crap font. Unlike fansubbers who seem to get it right most of the time!
See you all tonight!

serious=eva
last few dvds or\death & rebirth\end of eva
i would also liked to see some serious anime, i am sick of people going on and on about cats, and that shopping mall thing was very pointless IMO

Hehe, well, although Loveless seemed to have people voting for it because it was a 'cat people' anime... it's generally very serious and angsty most of the time. I think it wouldn't be what most would expect >.> But it should still be watched. XD
I'm still aiming for Ganku for serious anime *campaigns* ;D

I happen to like Cats. I have EVA, and I'm bringing it tonight...though it isn't everyones cup of tea. I think it's pretty good, but in general I hate mecha. I think Bleach is a good candidate, even though most people have seen it...and Elfin Lied is supposed to be good too. Rurouni Kenshin is another I'd like to see...it's supposed to be fairly serious.
Apparantly according to the website I visit, these are the top 20 anime, so maybe one of these is an idea?
Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence (1999) 2 Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (2003) 3 Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) 4 Elfen Lied (2004) 5 Full Moon wo Sagashite (2002) 6 Berserk (1997) 7 Cowboy Bebop (1998) 8 Hikaru no Go (2001) 9 Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! (2003) 10 Rahxephon (2002) 11 Fruits Basket (2001) 12 Gundam SEED (2002) 13 Hajime no Ippo (2000) 14 GunGrave (2003) 15 Scrapped Princess (2003) 16 Last EXILE (2003) 17 Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) 18 Azumanga Daioh (2002) 19 One Piece (1999) 20 Naruto (2002)

Kenshin! Ahh, I love RK... only have quite bad-quality fansubs of it though. It's serious in places - but the TV series actually has loads of spazzy humour too. It's only the OVAs that are really serious. But it is great. If anyone has a decent version of it (the TV series), they should bring it. ^^
