Oh my god - Blatny! What were the fansubbers thinking?
Anyway, massive apologies to everyone (as per usual).
Though to be honest it's not my fault that a) they didn't supply us with a speaker-to-whatever cable (until we appropriated one) b) the lights are bloody motion detectors - what were they thinking?! GAH! c) I'm not responsible for the scheduling of a band right beneath us, *Sob*
Anyway, so the animes that were voted as "to watch again" are- Full Metal Alchemist Fruits Basket Azumanga Daioh
We also watched Scrapped Princess (voted out) Outlaw Star something something Supermarket.
So we've still got one space for a "long-running" one, so next week we'll try to pick something for that too.
What did yo uguys think? Anyways we could have improved it?

Does anyone have any Gundam? I'd love to see some of that, as I have only seen about the first 10 eps, a long time ago. THhere are so many series, im sure we could find one to appeal to everyone (I love mecha), and seeing as eva got third highest votes can we see that next week tooo.... I don't tihnk calling it a "big robot shoot fight thing" or whatever it was described as really does it justice.
I may be able to get hold of some excel saga in the next few weeks if anyones interested in that?

I think maybe a serious one (must as i hate to say it) might be a good idea, because all the ones we have so far are fairly comedic. Most of the anime I have however is very Shojo. But these are the series I can bring in to watch next week if anyone wants me to:
1. Bleach (up to episode 35) 2. Elfen Lied 3. Neon Genesis Evangelion 4. Samurai Champloo (first 4 episodes) 5. Love Hina 6. Kimi Ga Nozumo Eien 7. Full Moon Wo Sagashite
It's a also, I think I have a lot better fansubbed version of fruits basket...one that actually has all the words in english!
I think Evangelion is very good, though the first 5 or 6 episodes are a bit of a bore if you don't like mecha (I don't)...but if you persevere it actually has a very deep storyline. Most people I've shown it to don't get it. It's a little dated, but worth it in the end.

Heh, Blatny... =p Most strange. Although I checked my fansubs, and turns out that's the version I've got, too. I have the first disc of Fruits Basket on DVD, so we could always use that. And in terms of Gundams, I only have Gundam Wing. (though that is great, so. ;D) And I'm sure people are already tired of me mentioning it (mwahaha) but I do think that Gankutsuou could be a good 'serious' series to show. (I was surprised Loveless got so many votes, really. I guess the thought of cat-people did it?)

Dang >< I missed the votey thing at the start and Fruits Basket somehow got on the permanent show list? Mero Mero Noooooooooo!!! RE: Marisa (Too lazy to quote) I have Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny and they're not licensed in this country so they're not too difficult to legally fudge over, I've also got Excel Saga. RE: Jess I'd totally watch Gankutsuou, it seemed pretty good from what I saw, even with the mental non moving backgroundery. RE: Lizzie, you've totally had a run of bad luck with venues ^^ I thought it was pretty much a success though, I could fairly easily tune out the "rawk" from downstairs after a while and could see the screen fairly clearly, thanks to everyone who brought equipment/organised/brough DVD's and so on and so forth. Sorry I couldn't come to the pub after, I should be able to next week. Note to self: Cause more of a disruption upon entering the room.

Note to self: Cause more of a disruption upon entering the room. What you wanna do, is wait til the lights actually go off, then rush in causing the motion detectors to turn them on again, now thatd be a somewhat annoying entrance.

Yep, I definitely agree that we need a "serious" one to balance it out - so maybe we'll sort of aim for people to bring ones that aren't comedy/highschool etc next week!
I was thinking Full Metal Panic is quite good for a bit of mecha etc, but...meh.
Also, Bleach would be brilliant to show - only thing is, we did show quite a bit last year, but to be honest, maybe the few people who did come last year wouldn't mind watching it again? Or we couldhave a catchup session? Does have some comedy bits but I think it's got a great storyline and plenty of action. Maybe you could bring it along Christie?
It's not as if we need to get into a great rush to find the last of the series ones...can carry on doing the "random slots".
What did people think - what the random slots a good idea? Or a bit cack?

So will be be able to have the lights thing changed so the motion sensors aren't on next week? Because it went pretty well other than that ^^ (since the band thing was a little irritating, but quite ignorable, especially once we could actually turn up the sound nice and loud) And yeah, the random slots thing was good! Will be nice to have variety ;D (hehe, like Outlaw Star...hadn't seen that in soooo long)
eta: oh yeah, on monday i'[ll update the website with details of what we watched this week etc. ^^ (was it abenobashi shopping arcade? if not, someone tell me, cause that's what i'm going with at the moment =p)

especially once we could actually turn up the sound nice and loud You couldn't hear the "pfffffffff pfffffffffff pffffffffff" noise that the cheesy amp/EQ was making in the background whenever anyone spoke, then? Tony mentioned this at the time, and tbh it was annoying. I'm thinking of bringing some audio gear along next time, assuming I've got a car by then.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi Though I now demand a series called Magical Shopping Arcade Merrion Centre ;D Yeah I'd fully agree with a having a serious anime to balance it out (though Full Metal Alchemist gets very serious later on.) I was thinking Full Metal Panic is quite good for a bit of mecha etc, but...meh. Much as I like Full Metal Panic I would never describe it as serious (though it has serious eps particularly in Second Raid) Oh and as to the Blatny/Gluttony thing I have the same version as well and seem to remember them fixing it later

It could have been a lot worse, anyway; plus it was better than just having the laptop speakers. Ack, yes. It really does like to pile on the angst. But at least it does have some comedy mixed in.

Hmmm... I have the full series for Cowboy Bebop, if people would be interested in watching it. Everyone seemed to like the movie when we watched it at Japanic. I've got the Hellsing series too, if people want horror. I'd recommend Petshop of Horrors too, even though it's only a four-episode series (damn I wish there was more to it though!).
I'm glad I already knew what they meant by "Blatny"... I wonder if they randomly changed any of the other names? o.O

Yeah... maybe we can make that a regular thing... but with different themes. Not every week, obviously... just every so often.

Which, since I have, I'll bring along next week just in case

A serious anime sounds a good idea, but the outlaw star we saw seemed pretty serious , or was that just me... I was only scim reading, but did someone mention theme weeks, I think that is a great idea, maybe on theme weeks have more random slots, although they are not "random" as such they have to fit in the genre of that week, being a bit of an anime noob I don't really know the words for what genres to suggest, what is shojo etc, theme weeks would be a good way to teach people all about genres they don't know about/haven't seen before.
I might be bringin my little sister int he next few weeks, she can bring(all on official dvds, £20 don't know where she gets the £££!)
-fruits basket -excel saga -gundam wing endless waltz -evangelion including all the directors cuts and originals -pretear -azumanga diaoh -card captors sakura -ROD (a special i think they are called OVA?)
and more random ones I can't remember the names of one looks kinda like bubblegum crisis but has parts set in the past and is a 3part special-anyone know what im on about?
some are on VHS though do we have the facility to play those?

I have Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny and they're not licensed in this country so they're not too difficult to legally fudge over Gundam SEED is indeed licensed in the UK, by Beez. I have the first two UK DVDs. (It's an excellent release, too! Much better than their shoddy Gundam Wing DVDs of yesteryear.)

Um, on themes... I think maybe as a one-off it might be a good idea, but definitely not frequently. Mostly because we only meet once a week anyway, so having 'themed' nights would break up the viewing of the regular series, which we won't get to see that much of anyway. (seeing as we'll have...what, 8 meetings or so this semester? Even if we watched our 'regular' series every week, we still wouldn't finish any of them)
Plus I think one of the nice things about the normal schedule is you get to see a variety of different shows and genres... with too many themes, it could easily put off a lot of people from coming if they think they might not like it.
But, yeah. Sounds like it could be a nice idea for a one-off - or maybe every so often just the 'extra' slots could be themed or something.

Ryou... I know what you mean about breaking up the regular series we watch every week. When I said "every so often" I meant like every Halloween we'd have a horror theme... and then maybe once in every semester (so three times a year at most) we'd have a different theme. That'd be alright, wouldn't it?

Yeah, that sounds pretty good ^^ It'd probably be a fun thing to do as long as we could collect together enough anime along that theme =D

On the topic of themes, i was talking to Tony and Jamie about a 'crap dubbing' anime night where we could split into two teams and could voice over to some dialogue heavy anime. Audience vote at the end for the best/funniest dubbing & Prizes for the winner!
all we need are a few mics and some quick wit, it could be like the 'who's line is it anyway' ad lib sections
..hmm or it could be tragically bad, and possibly offensive. but either way im up for it?!
