I'm guessing it's alright to meet you guys there? I don't reckon the dub will be too bad, especailly compared with certain anime films some of us have seen recently(!!!) I mean, Christian Bale - come on!

Yep - of course you can meet us there! And er...mmm let's hope the dubbing is er - an improvement on last night shall we say (God, I really wanted to remember some of those choice lines and they've all completely gone out of my head!)

"The boy has become a man.", after Pazu disappears from between Dola's legs. "Don't worry Sheeta, we can go all the way.", as Pazu and Sheeta were levatating down the mine-shaft. There were so many really bad bits, I was seriously disappointed as I love that film. I've seen a different English dub, as well as the original subbed and they were both infinitly better than that. There were large tracts of near-silence, too, where there should at least have been the sound of wind blowing or something. Plus, why so small? Could've easily been twice the size and not ran out screen to fill. Anyway, enough bitching from me. Not sure if I'll be coming along to the next showing, got a midterm and an essay to be handed in around that time.

I'll def be coming next week, and pretty sure Becca will be too. ^^ Thankfully I haven't heard the original yet, so won't have anything to compare the dub to, at least...=p

Yes - those were the ones! Jess - glad to hear you and your sister are coming. The week after, my sister's coming to visit (and do animesoc!) crazyness!

"when you came in the sky, it made me excited" and sheeta randomly saying: "birds make me happy" the baddie nonchelant saying i'll give you 3 minutes...
I think dubbing in Miyazaki films has been getting better and better since the old ones. Howls should (fingers crossed ) be good.

I thought the dub was amazing...completely made my night.
"I would like to come and see your Yak" "...Birds make me happy..." (in the most depressing voice I've ever heard)
I thought the robots were so cute though!

Do you need to be a huge anime fan to be a part of this society? I want to broaden my anime horizons but have only watched a small amount so far. I dont want people to be offended by my lack of knowledge and annoying questions, such as 'Whats Howl's Moving Castle?'.....one of my flat mates is really into anime, does that count?

|
Post by Pusscat on Oct 15, 2005 11:26:43 GMT
Of course you don't!
Our naff "objective" for the society is to "broaden and raise awareness" about anime and manga, so if you don't know anything, it doesn't matter at all!
No-one is going to be offended - there are plenty of people in the society who have only seen a couple of things and just want to start getting into it.
Come along on Thursday and see if you like the film (though it will be dubbed - as in, in horrid american voices rather than the original japanese ones, so try to ignore that and see if you like the style!)

Alright then, sounds good. Im not actually a member of the anime society though, is that going to be a problem? Also i dont know a lot so raising my awareness should be a walk in the park! One last question.....whats anime? Nah im kidding, im not that bad.

Definately going, even though I've seen it already. The dub has a couple of naff lines but it's not quite as bad as castle in the sky... "I'm built like a brick muppet, if muppets were made of bricks!" ??

i should be there Castle in the sky was hilarious because of the dub, i think my personal favourite was "don't worry we can go all the way", followed by "the entrance is so small" ahh im such a dirty minded b*tch the brick muppet thing just confused me.... but did anyone else want to cry when the robot got shot at repeatedly by cannons?

I'm not sure about going, really bogged down with work at the moment, but I really want to ;D. I'm so annoyed I can't come to the first proper anime society social - my 13 year old brothers staying for a week as part of my fathers crackpot plan to "let him see university life" - AT 13! THE MANS INSANE!
My little brother probably loves anime as much as me, and he's very tall, but I don't think I could pass him off, unfortunately.

Whhhhat, you should be able to bring him!
I don't think that there's a no under 18s rule at the union, just the sign in rule. Check at reception when you're next in the Union.
Otherwise we're going to have a problem week after this one when my sister comes!
(13 though - gah!)

I might bring him to the social then, if you think no-one will mind. He is very well-behaved and mature for such a young kid, but he has me in hysterics half the time. I'll see what he says.

Castle in the sky was so funny because of the dub, my fav was "don't worry we can go all the way", followed by "the entrance is so small" So even though the dub was bad it made it a good night ;D As for this thus count me in

I think it'll be fine...as long as he doesn't start going "oh man oh man - can't we watch some Pokemon?!?!?!" Lmfao - he used to like Pokemon, but told me in an oh-so serious fashion that after watching the quality of animation that was in Love Hina and Full Moon he was a convert to the "real world of anime". Oh how I laughed at him. You should have seen his little intent face. For some reason, he's a big fan of girls anime. And Miyazaki. The only thing he doesn't like is anime with lots of mecha battles and no comedy, or Rayearth.
