Well, it's technically not anime, but it's about Otaku. Densha Otoko the TV series has recently started to become available on fansub.
For those who don't know, this is based on (apparently) a real-life story. A hopeless otaku one day sees a pretty girl being harassed on a train, and decides to stand up for her. Later, he writes about his experiences on a BBS, and then recieves a thank-you gift of expensive cups from the girl. He then resolves to change himself for her.
There was also a hugely succesful live action film, and there are about 4 mangas currently running based on the same story. Well worth checking out for any anime fan, although the main character can come across as overly pathetic.

I checked this out a while ago and tis trully fantastic. There are now two groups subbing it (shinsen and the original walle) which is good because I am still yet to see episode 5 on walle (and its been a good few weeks).
