At the start of the year, back in 2005, we had regular showings, and less votes, which in my opinion was better. Towards the end of the year, we all decided that it was better to simply vote for six and watch whatever, but... correct me if I'm wrong... it all seemed to go to hell. We got through half a couple of mini-arcs at best. We were (sort of) regularly watching episodes of Elfen Lied, Gankutsuo, Kenshin, etc. toward the end, but through the year, didn't actually get through an entire series. I think we should count up the number of showings that we'll have over 2006/07 and regularly watch a varied selection of anime series' that will all have reached the final episode in the series (or season) by the following May. Maybe just three would be a good number, with different themes. For instance, a modern school-themed anime, something with plenty of oldskool samurai action, and something else with, y'know... robots n'stuff. Apologies if a similar thread has already been started, I couldn't find one, but it is 2 in the morning.

It's a good idea in theory... but the only reason we stopped showing things regularly in the first place is because the majority of people decided that was what they wanted. :/ and unless it's a really short series (13 eps or so) we probably wouldn't get through a whole one anyway. it's a shame, but voting for everything seemed to be what most people wanted... and the popular ones got voted in regularly anyway.

mm..we can ask what every1 wants at the beginning of next year, once we got the freshers in! but i agree with jess...pretty much in effect gankutsou, samurai champaloo and elfein lied were voted in every week- the voting was kinda a formality! its certainly the most democratic way of doing things! it just makes sure that 50 % of the ppl there arent stuck watching something they dnt want to! but whatever you guys want to do at the beinning of next year will be cool. ;D

I prefered the system where we had a few regular slots and1(or was it 2?) votes/totally randomised(pull out of a bag etc), best of both worlds, and gives you time to really get into a series, otherwise everyone judges a whole series on the first ep of it they see, and the random idea means that people get the chance to see something that might not get any votes because it was explained poorly but could be a real surprise and turn out great.

As Jess said, most series won't fit into the time scale you have. You also have to consider that it's probably best not to start regular showing slots until a week or two into the society's start, as you will get a lot of people joining late (who didn't realise the society was around/were trying out other things/just too busy being a fresher). Of course you could then offer them the chance of borrowing the cd.
Also, with your set series you'd need to try to find a way to make sure they're varied.
Either way, you can go back to like how we started off and see how it goes (and do a vote like we did to gauge how it's going).

Over the summer the committee will be doing a lot of research into the best ways of running the society next year, this will include looking into everyones opinions of the best and to improve parts from the past year. Once we begin next year this can too be adjustable to everyone's needs so please keep an eye out over the Summer. I will most likely be (abusing) ... err using Chris to get some emails sent out to people too. Hopefully we will be able to speak to last years committee to get some more opinions and assitance to make September onwards the best year for our society ever! ... Also we will win every catagory of the Rileys this year, even those we don't fit into. . . . . . .

Perhaps we could spend the first couple of weeks showing a selection of first episodes, and then have a vote based on the 'pilot' episodes that we saw and make sure they get shown every week from then on.
