Okay, basically: it probably won't be getting an update for a while. Why? Well, the union being the lovely people they are, neglected to mention to us that it expired at the end of last year (!). Only found this fact out just now in a very roundabout way, having gone through ISS and some other random guy. So at the moment, it's pretty much unusable. Joy. Need to try and get it activated/set up again, but not sure how long that will take. (Lizzie, apparently we need to go see ARC's Steven Barker?) So, yeah. It's going to stay dead for a while. Edit by Lizzie - It's all fixed, we're now taking ideas for what to include on the new site.

Argh!
ok, Well I 've just been and spoken to Steve Barker. I've filled in some silly form about it which needs to be authenticated and then the massive process kicked off and done by the stupid ISS people. so it might take 2 weeks.
Think you could host it for that long adam? Let us know if we'd need to pay you for bandwidth etc.
I'll let you know what and when I heard from them.
Stupid buggers could have least let us know they were blocking it (they did for all societies but you've got to renew it, but it seems nobody bothered to tell us that!)

not a problem! just catch me on msn or soemthign and we can sort it out... As for paying me, dont be silly :-P unless the whole of animesoc wants to buy me a box of flumps in the meantime, could this be a good chance for the web freaks like myself, jamie and jess to get down to work/ideas for a newish site... As i showed you, here was a random trial layout i created www.retrogamedepot.com/animesoc/test/index.htmAs you know im dying to crack on with a site!!!

Another thought I had whilst walking home was: We need to have a bit which says what we watched each week, but it would be cool if we could also have a comments section (perhaps expandable so that if you don't want to see them you just don't click on it) so that people can say what they thought of each one. Though it does sound like it's begging for spam

Maybe like a guestbook style thing? Or perhaps a rating system?

Guestbook wouldnt be a problem at all.... good idea too... however as i cant code any server based web stuff like a guestbook, we will have to use a free one such as Bravenet's guestbook service.... still works fine

Yeah, the problem is stuff like guestbooks etc, work best with things like PHP, which the server doesnt seem to like apparently, pretty annoying, but well just have to find a way around it

Ok, after much photoshoperizing, heres my idea for the new site. www.freewebs.com/clockwork_killa/web_layout.jpgI apologize for the photo of lizzie, its not a good picture, but its the only one I had. Aside from that, hope you all like it Oh yeah, just one thing, NO I have no idea what the kanji says (possibly something about ninjas), dont even know if its real kanji, its simply there for decoration, so no smart comments, im looking at you Dan and Marisa!!

ARGH! Remove picture of me NOW! Seriously web design people - the site is not to include any picture of me unless it has been approved beforehand And yes, Ben is right - it's just a list of the katakana alphabet. Interesting design, but it's a bit empty - I think I prefer adam's in terms of filling up the page. Can also see potential problems arising from the "meet the society" bit - we could hardly include all the members, and it would be a bit unfair to just mention all the "notables", if you see what I mean.

I like that design though, looks like a comic book, I was assuming that was the idea though!

Spot on, Id probably end up changing the photos anyway, replacing them with manga like drawings or something, to give the impression of a manga rather than a traditional comic

heya jamie!(or jess for that matter!) this is actually about the forum, but its generally related so i thought i'd stick it here!!
..what do you reckon about having a Welcome/ Introduction section?? most of the other forums i know of have one, and i think its a good idea which works quite well!! so ppl get to know each other, by setting up a thread wer every greets them!! may be particularly useful for next year wen all the new first years come in, and itd be easier to pick up if you join half way thru! i just think more ppl would use the forum, because theyd be less intimidated by the pages of randomness- it'll give more of a chance for ppl to ease in and get 2 kno each other in a real world context- developing rappore and all that!!
also, i reckon its an idea for the commitee to have their position somewhere in their profile, either as a custom title or something else, dnt kno what! a few of us have done it already, but it still needs to be done for those of us without custom titles! i just think it'd be easier for new members to link the forum to the real world, since for most of us our usernames aren't reflective of our real names and this way ppl can figure out who they're talking 2!!
just a couple of ideas that i got reminded of after looking at the liverpool animesoc board tho ive had them for a while- anyway hope this dsnt sound 2 hostile/ matter-a-fact or nething! just posting between statistical analyses , erghhh... hope ure having a fab time in denmark, lucky ****** cheers fella! ;D

Sounds good ash,
Also adding to the committee positions, you also might want to consider having Committee members names on their bit somewhere, just so people know who is who.
Obviously it would be great if more people did this - I remember at the beginning of term it was a bit of a trial trying to work out who from the forums is who at the meetings!

Yep, good ideas! I can give you your position as a custom now if you want? (however you want it phrased ) though you seemed to be having fun trying to find out what the next title level was xD welcome/intro section's def a good idea for next year, too. :3

if its gonna replace my level title, then i shall wait till i have the 4 stars...which shouldnt be too long now !! hehe, man i do post 2 much!! if its just anothe title underneath, then whenever would be good! and a sensisble "Mr. Social Secretary" would be fine ;D thankyee jess!!tho i do think if we can get all the commitee people to have it on their avatar-posty bit, that would be very useful, esp for the newbies! as far having your name somewhere else, for commitee and for everone else...perhaps an optional short Bio/about me box in people's profile would be good(dunno if that possible with this forum)! so people could just put whatever they want in there, like their name, what course theyre doing, what anime they like, etc. and you could read it whenever you wanted !! and if people can't be bothered with it or would rather not disclose any more info they wouldnt fill it out in the first place! but that way you have a potential quick reference to who everyone is, instead of going back 2 the introductions threads if youre not sure(assuming they posted there in the first place)!!

haha, okay... i'll try changing it, and if it overrides the star-title, i'll get rid of it again 'til you're ready and yeah... i'm not sure why this forum doesn't have a bio section in the profile, it's a bit weird. can have a look, but i'm not sure if the forum has it. *goes to poke around*

Yeah, we should consider changing your actual title ash, hehe. The intors section is definitely a good Idea, but youll have to promise to keep it relatively spam free cos Ive seen similar threads on other boars which are just spam and faming of new users, not that wed do hat here of course ;D

well the welcome thread may get a lil random, they usually do on most welcome sections i've seen!but each thread would be about that specific person, and everyone saying hey/ getting to know them in their own crazy-ass way!! faming?- im guessing you were meant to type flaming

|

Post by nerve on Apr 25, 2006 9:11:12 GMT
hehe, yeah! I really wouldn't mind being famed! And if we're picking holes in typing now then there's also the matter of "boars"...
So long as it's the person introducing themselves that's doing the spamming! It's no good them politely saying hello and then being bombarded with rubbish about spoon armies and ghost fruit and iganas in hats and such, but on the other hand if they feel that the best way to introduce themselves is by kicking off a raving spam session about said spoon armies then they should probably be left to go about their business. Tricky to moderate.

Your agenda is riddled with pro-spam bias! =P but I guess you're probably right. i reckon its an idea for the commitee to have their position somewhere in their profile, either as a custom title or something else, dnt kno what! a few of us have done it already, but it still needs to be done for those of us without custom titles! i just think it'd be easier for new members to link the forum to the real world, since for most of us our usernames aren't reflective of our real names and this way ppl can figure out who they're talking 2!! I agree, partly because I want to feel spethial, but also because of all the reasons Ash said there!

Yeah what I mean is, it would be great to have an intros section, but It should be kept to a minimum of spamming, so if peope ant to kick off on a spam attack then they can do it in the spam thread, likewise, I dont think it would be that polite if new-comers were treated to a torrent of spamming and piss-taking upon first arrival, theres a time and a place for that sort of thing.....
.. like 5 minutes after theyve first arrived ;D
