In any case, the odd foibles with the new forum seem to be fixed now, so let's all stop posting on this damn thread and go for some frosty chocolate milkshakes. Now thats something everyone can agree with

To CLARIFY, I wasn't talking about the banners, headers etc, stuff that it is a good idea to proof read and triple check as that is what really advertises the soc. Still there is no reason to so harshly attack Jamie when he is new to this position, and trying his best, and actually doing something which shows results, and was there ever any comformation the final leaflets had errors anyway?
I was talking more about the threads, as for some people (myself included and I am sure others all well) taking the time to type slowly enough to ensure there are no little mistakes, typos, a missing ', fullstops, capital letters etc. Takes extra time, and i lose my "creative flow" and forget what I was saying, it is actually happening now.. Also not all of us are perfect at grammer and spelling, what may seem really easy to you could result in me typing every other word into an online dictionary to make sure I have spelt it correctly, I'd rather not bother at all than feel pressured into having to do that, or having all the little mistakes i am certain people can read through anyway, pointed out to me. People won't be put off if they have to spell correctly most of the time if it comes naturally, or with minimum effort, they will be if it all has to be 100% perfect all the time or a load of perfectionists start moaning at them, thinking they are so much better and more intelligent just because they know how to spell a few more words and a little bit more about the punctuation symbols that go between them. If we start down this path we may never end, what next drafting in an oxford proffessor of english to make sure everything is beautiful queens english? All this had made me feel very rageous, and I know about the feeling excluded and everyone seeming superior scenario, as i am starting to feel it now. To pusscat who alikened forum writing to letter writing, to most people posting on a forum is a commen occurance a day to day thing, the same as chatting in real life, sometimes you slip up with your sentances when rambling, because you are relaxed. Those who see it as writing a letter to someone who have to take special care not to disrespect are in the vast minority, and don't use forums often, so are therefore not getting the most out of them or apprechaiting all they can do, so should not impose thier rules on others. Those of us who make mistakes don't mind if you spell everything perfect, even if it does make us sometimes feel inadequate, unless you start expecting everyone to do the same, people aren't the same, they place importance on different things, and hack skills and weaknesses at different things. As long as posts are understood, everyone should live and let live, let people post however they like to, would you rather give the impression that the society is a happy one where people get on and are free to post in a way they feel comfortable, or one of a society with overbearing rules which cause constant disagreements with some people telling others what to do and what not to do in no uncertain terms?
I would have accepted the "lets all go for milkshakes remark" if it had all ended on everyone having thier say equally, but it ended up on two people attacking me, so i can't back off without expanding on my viewpoint.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't what the discussion was about until you brought it up, but that's fair enough Marisa; that's a very fair and reasonable point of view to have, and I agree with you.
Now if you can actually find, say, more than one instance on either forum of people pointing out bad grammar outside of this thread, I'll buy you that frosty chocolate milkshake myself.

Well yes it is totally separat since nobody told me we allready had a domain name. We have a new website hosted entirely separately from the university with a brand new .com domain and a new forum which is part of that domain. It was the new comittees decision to have a new and improved website and the only way to have the sort of site we wanted was to buy some proper hosting. If Id known about the old domain name, then I would have asked to have it transferred to the new site, but It doesnt really matter now, i can still probably have that domain transferred to our new hosting as well. ahh, don't worry about that; it wasn't much, and the new one's much better anyway!
