Well...we have a favourites thread, so why not a hated one too! I think everyone know's my opinions anyway, but I'll start it off. Sgt. Frog - absolutely appalling shite. Boboboboboloddy horrendous - nosehairs? What is this, some kind of shitty anime made for 2 year old americans? Ranma 1/2 - for some reason when I'd heard of ranma, I thought it was a mecha (RahXephon confusion maybe). To find out is is instead a cacky repetitive "it's a boy! it's a girl! it's some boobs! Oh no, compromising situation!....panda!"

Haha, makes me kind of glad I missed bobobo...whatever it was. =p
I haven't really seen much that I hate... I don't really care for any of the ones you mentioned, though. Also, I really didn't like what I've seen of Love Hina, Midori no Hibi and Mahoromatic. Though they're all the same kinda genre I guess, so perhaps ecchi-comedy just isn't for me.
...fist of the north star was pretty atrocious too, actually. =p
Oh! Actually, I hatehateHATED legend of the blue wolves. Which i hope no-one else has seen. it was disturbing and horrible and downright bad...so i think that's the only thing which gains my true hatred.

Mahoromatic is a dire piece of fanboy wish-fulfillment. It's about as bad as it gets before actual hentai. Okusama wa Joshi Kousei is another offender in this category. Speaking of hentai, that's where a lot of terrible stuff is, like Big Wars and Adventure Duo.
Also, Armageddon was utter shite. In every possible way.

To find out is is instead a cacky repetitive "it's a boy! it's a girl! it's some boobs! Oh no, compromising situation!....panda!" ...says she who confesses to actually *liking* Fruits Basket? This sound familiar? "It's a cat! It's a pig! It's two blokes having a fight! Oh no, situation involving Tohru being incredibly polite! ....Kyo on the roof of his house!" ;D I'll take Ranma 1/2 over Fruits Basket any day... Anime I hate: Dragonball Z. "Let's jump in the air and have a fight!!1111" Or... not.

Difference between Ranma and Furuba: FB has interesting characters with depth and is actually emotionally affecting. XP
Oh, DBZ. *nostalgia* I love how it would take them like 2 weeks for a single fight. and I never watched the cartoon network dbz marathons ohh no. =p

let the flam0rz commence but fruits basket-and i'm sorry but i refuse to call it furuba because that just sounds lame, is BORING, and dull and oh so repetative and slow........... the best, and only enjoyable part of the eps is the theme tune! at least ranma gives the odd laugh.

I enjoy them both, but Fruits Basket is easier to mock. Because it's so full of angst. Each character has angst oozing from their pores. With the possible exception of Tohru's dad. And I'm sure there's an angsty past that hasn't been shown there yet. The manga introduces many new characters just so the author can bring in more histories full of angst, so don't think it's limited to the cursed people. As for Ranma, I have seen a little of the anime now, and it's just inferior to the manga. I'm not quite sure why, but it just doesn't have that touch that made the manga good. (This may just be nostalgia, since Ranma was among the very first manga I ever read, way back). DBZ? Yes, it takes forever. Another case of the manga being superior (for having vastly condensed fights). Yada yada, hating on DBZ is cool. It's not great by a long way, but I still like it as no-brain marathon fodder. Fist of the North Star. True rubbish. Hard guys fight each other. Best viewed under some kind of influence and in company.I've watched about 100-odd episodes, and it really doesn't change. Every episode is ridiculous, and I like it that way. Even more than DBZ, partly because at least things happen, and dead people stay dead (well, except when they didn't really die). But it should never be claimed that FotN is good. New Fist of the North Star, though, is just pretty bad. It doesn't even have ridiculousness as a redeeming feature. In conclusion, 90% of anime is crap. Ref: Sturgeon's Revelation: 90% of everything is crap. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon%27s_lawOh, and no-one's mentioned the Super Milk Chan show yet. That I have no problem hating.

IN DEFENSE OF RANMA 1/2
Firstly, I don't actually think people can hate Ranma, you may or may not like it, but to say you hate it is too extreme, especially if one considers that this is one of the first High School animes that came out.
Secondly, I like Fruits Basket, but anybody can see the analogies with Ranma straight away. A human girl hugs one of the zodiac male signs he turns into the animal his sing is (sounds familiar to me, how original, I am well impressed).
Thirdly, categorizing Ranma as a second class anime when it's in fact a classic, you people have really disappointed me.
Finally, someone else said they didn't like the Anime because they had read the Manga, that's a little lame to say that, don't you think, especially because the Anime follows exactly the same storyline as the Manga, with a few extra fillers, which don't really make such a difference.

Carlos! I can't believe you're defending Ranma!
Perhaps its my fault for hating old animes, I just can't like the skanky old animation style. But at least Fruits Basket episodes seem to go somewhere, and the story moves on and gets new bits, Ranma just seems to be rinse and repeat boy/girl panda/dad. Bleurgh!

Sounds like the president doesn't like the really bizzaro comedy anime shows that get shown at anisoc then? Fair play though as everyone's entitled to their opinion.
I haven't really seen anything that I hated (although some of the one-offs last year were borderline.) However, whilst not remembering the names of the animes exactly I'm generally thinking that al lot of the releases dubbed by Manga Entertainment and ADV Films when they first started getting into the anime business were bad becasue of the dubs they recieved (i.e akin to old kung-fu movies.)

POKEMON!!!!!!!! altho its just not good enough to be anime- so it dsn't count!! Ash's voice really grates on me-- haha- how ironic. that and his eternal chirpyness- bah. "go pikachu, you can do it" shut the frick up, you fricker!!! yes my name is ash, and yes i do quite frequently wer baseball caps, often back to front, but i am NOT, repeat NOT Ash Ketchum!! grrr! i quite liked the original games- good idea, and quite addictive- but the series just annoys the hell out of me- i'd even prefer watching digimon or something.

Whether it is a classic or not, I was simply saying that I much preferred the manga, and thought the anime seemed to be just 'ok'... in my opinion.

Opinions are facts on the internet.
Besides, the anime is worse than the manga. Having the same plot does not mean it's equally good.
And I love how this is turning into Ranma vs. Fruits Basket. They're completely different. Fruits Basket is shoujo, and has more plot and characterisation. Although the plot advances slowly. Damn slowly. If you compare the mangas, even Dragonball moves faster. It's masterful at feeling like it's going somewhere, while actually not (like Megatokyo). Ranma is shonen, and is more focused on frantic action and zany comedy. (Yes, zany is an appropriate word). It doesn't actually have a plot, except during mini-arcs. It's more like a sitcom. In fact, it is a sitcom. Don't expect anything more than that.
As for the originality of people turning into things, that's an ancient idea (have you read Homer's Oddysey?). I don't think either mangaka particularly stole the idea from anywhere, and they both put an appropriate spin on it for the series they wrote.

OK, so maybe I got a little too carried away, but I just can't bare people tearing Ranma apart.
NO, this is not a Fruits Basket VS Ranma, and it never was intended that way. The purpose of it was just to illustrate to Pusscat that people changing into random things happened before, like you correctly say Hat_Hair even in Classical literature, and yes I have read the Odyssey!
Of course the two Animes are completely different, I never said that Fruits Basket was the same as Ranma. Shonen and Shojo are quite different, I am not that dim!!
Sorry, If I offended you Francesca, like I said I got a little too carried away last night. I also prefer the Manga.

By the way I never did mention my most hated animes did I?
There goes:
Keroro Sgt Frog, sorry Tony, but it is too much even for me.
Bobobobobo and don't know how many more 'boes' I've left out, it just not my thing.
Super Milk Chan, Oh how glad I was that day when we had the fire drill!! (I had time to leave without being noticed!!).
All the mons'. I really can't stand either Pokemon or Digimon
Oh, yes, nearly forgot I also hate that panda thing we watched last year, I think it was a kind of robot thing.

I love Fruits Basket (duh - who would have guessed?) and Ranma. I guess it was zany comedy and shojo that got me into anime in the first place. I'm only really starting to get into serious anime.
I hate, absoutely hate anything that has no, or a thinly veiled plot. People who are like "Waaaah! Big Robots having big fights and destroying things! For no real reason! Waaaah! 1111111!" really get my goat. Especially if they then insult anything that has some semblence of a plot or has emotional characters as being "too slow" or "not enough action" when really they are crying inside because there's no meccha or semi-naked women with over-large breasts.
*rant over*

And random pretty-boy anime with very little plot too. =p But stuff that's all fighting and exploding heads *cough* with no plot is just booooring. XP

NO, this is not a Fruits Basket VS Ranma, and it never was intended that way. The purpose of it was just to illustrate to Pusscat that people changing into random things happened before. Can't it be both ^^ I'm with you dude, i belive this is worth throwing the over used "pwn" in here somewhat liberally :ahem: Ranma 1/2 pwns Fruits Basket (but then so does Fists of the North star amazingly) Fruits Basket just seems very very dull with naff characters, but then I've never been a shojou fan at all. Every gag can be seen limping over the horizon. The problem is it's not so terrible as to actually be funny, it's just a very boring kind of terrible. (I'll just take any chance to slate FB). I don't think they have to be the same to be comparable, the itnernet gives every grubby anime fan a voice for ranting and we liberally abuse this privalige. other animes i hate... Hellsing. His vampire based activities and the strange girl called Kitty leave me deeply unimpressed, the long red coat thing was done better by Vash, and to be honest....vampires? How 19th century. If anything saved it it was when he said "punk" in pigeon english in epsiode 1. Up until that point I had largely thought it impossible to say a single word in pigeon english but he carried it off rather well. Gundam Wing - I love Gundam. Just not this one. You could also have called hit GundamZone, Backstreet Gundams, Take Gundam (or Gundam That if you prefer). Simply remove plot, insert politics and pretty boys. Great looking mechs though. Last Exile - I'm probably going to get crucified for this, but seriously.....what actually happened? Gonzo have a terrible habit of effectively ruining any anime they produce in the final furlong and Last Exile was a prime example of how to completely arse up something that up until the last 20 minutes was a damn good effort. It just sort of tailed off very rapidly with a complete absence of explanation as to what actually transpired to reach the happily ever after nonsense. There's other stuff, but it's not even worth discussing, old school crap that falls below the radar like any of the Cyberpunk collection and so on and so forth, i don't actually even hate them, they're not even good enough to provoke a strong opinion.

Super milk chan. Why Super Milk Chan!!!!! Phil, i should have slapped you one before you left for Japan for exposing me to that utter shite. You brained my damage AAAARRRGHHH!!! Ahh, Super Milk Chan. x___x that was... yeah. that was bad. Super Milk Chan, Oh how glad I was that day when we had the fire drill!! (I had time to leave without being noticed!!). rofl. My legacy lives on! I haven't seen much Ranma, but I really enjoyed what I did see. But then, I really enjoyed the first disc of Fruits Basket as well, but as it went on I got somewhat pissed off with its repetitiveness. Everyone has a dark, angsty past, and everyone gets better because Tohru talks nicely to them. In general, I found Tohru quite grating as a character. That said... I still like it a lot. In fact, it's pretty rare that I see anime I actively dislike (probably in large part because I know what I like, and I seek it out). Things I don't like: Princess Mononoke - Yes, I know, I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like this movie. In general I don't see the big deal about Miyazaki/Ghibli movies, although I've only seen a few of them (and I liked the others better than Mononoke). Witch Hunter Robin - It has great art and a great dark, moody atmosphere, but the first half of the series has some of the most lame and underdone "monster of the week" episodes I've seen. It did get better once it actually grew a plot, but the beginning left a bad taste in my mouth. Blood+ - I love the original OVA and was hoping to love the TV series as well. The action scenes are cool, but the plot is lazily written (with such brilliant dialogue as "Oh yeah, you can't remember anything earlier than a year ago") and the day-to-day stuff just isn't that entertaining. (But this is just based on the first two episodes, and I do plan to watch more sometime.)

Boboboboboloddy horrendous - nosehairs? What is this, some kind of shitty anime made for 2 year old americans? 2 year old? Hell, I'm ten times that and I still get a kick out of it. But I'm a fan of the occasional well done random funny anime, too much of the emo, watching sunsets, and sparkling eyes in the "serious animes" get on my nerves after too much watching. The only real anime that I have a major grudge against is the first one that I ever seriously started to watch, to the point of actually going out and buying the set of dvd's for: Neon Genesis Evangelion. Started strong, ended with a plop. I heard the excuse that they blew their animation budget on the first few episodes, but in my mind that does not make it ok for it all to be about Shinji crying about how much his life sucks as he floats around old clips. Oh, and if the "2 year old american" quip was pointed towards me, I shall take offence.
