obviously its a general i'm pissed off thread. I am seriously pissed off by the downward slide of western culture, modern 'nuts' loving man and the idiot women who think they have to look like porn stars to be attractive, the british government and its obsession with the PFI initiative which has royally screwed over dozens of areas and ruined hundreds of lives across the country, and more than anything else, everyone in this country's extroadinary ability to 'just chill' when action needs to be taken.
the fact that your life doesn't revolve around drinking and fucking already means that you aren't one of those 'modern men' that i was railing against, so how bout you don't take it so seriously, it's just a general i'm pissed off thread. It's a moment thing.

This is in fact a thread for anger. You shouldn't be surprised if people in here are pissed off.
I'm not going to accept any descent into flaming though, so I'm giving advance warning to everyone now.

Things aren't so bad, if you genuinely have a problem with society, then you can just go join another one. Read a Ray Mears book and go live in the Siberian forest with the Evenki. Live off the land, hunt, milk elk, gather berries, fish through holes in the ice. What's actually stopping you if you hate this country so much?
If enough people didn't like the government they would vote against it... blame the people, not the government. I don't like labour as much as the next guy but try telling people round here who will blindly vote labour because of the pit closures in the 1970s, and the students who would blindly vote lib-dem even if they implimented a nuclear decimation policy.
Plus you think this 'slide' is anything to worry about? I wonder if the Romans ever started to say 'oooh I'm fed up of all these orgies and magical herbs from the East!'
There's my anger... you've got it good, don't spoil it by trying to 'save the world' when it simply doesn't need saving.
Things are fine ;D

the world doesn't need saving?
Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of farmers in China who've been poisoned and killed or had their lives ruined by pollution caused by the country's "development", to the thousands of minorities in south east asia being killed off so the government can use their forest homes as lumber to fuel western demands, and to all the families who've lost members thanks to our meddling in the middle east.
That too far reaching for you? The labour government initiated Private Finance Initiative has handed over vast amounts of the governing of this country to private companies who have nothing but a profit margin to worry about.
You want evidence? In coventry, there are three hospitals. 2 in the city centre and The walsgrave hospital on the outskirts. It's one of the main hospitals in the area and in need of refurbishment that would have cost 30 mil. The labour government refused to finance it without the involvement of a private company, so the NHS came up with the brilliant plan of demolishing both of the city centre hospitals and the walsgrave, then building a smaller hospital on the wallsgrave site that didn't have as many beds as the original hospital, never mind the ones lost from the other two hospitals. Predicted cost of this new hospital 174mil.
Why did the NHS do this? because labour woudn't give them money without private finance and they couldn't find finace for the original idea, they had to invent one to bring in the private money so that they could get the finance.
UK land development and conservation is controlled by John Prescott who is also chief ambassador for all the property companies and responsible for giving them more freedom. This conflict of interest doesn't seem to bother labour though so conservation and the lives of thousands of people have taken a second place to the profit motive.
Current plans to privatise schools will inevitably result in understaffing, larger classes, and as a result, lower grades and the further decline of engand on the world's education league tables.
My point? That the wallsgrave is just one of hundreds of examples nationwide where labour is allowing companies to take over and control all the things that are most important to us. they will make their millions, send their kids to Eton, while the rest of us will have to live with their legacy.
As a side note, the Roman empire fell because they had gotten too lazy, and too decadent. I hardly think they are a good example for us.

Are you sure that the stat wasn't that less than a quarter of the british population voted for labour? seeing as only a third of the population voted at all that'd still give them the win.

Random anger - I'm failing Japanese, I don't think I have the grades for English to accept me on a straight degree. I had an Endoscopy today that hurt like hell (why oh why did I not choose to be sedated?) where the incompetant doctor ripped the back of my throat, and drained the contents of my stomach, only to let go of it and spill the bile all over my hair and clothes. Then I get my diagnoses and basically my condition is uncurable and im going to be in pain and on medication the rest of my life.

that sucks big time. japanese is a pain, do you enjoy it? Not really at the moment, no. But I'm not a quitter, and will struggle on till they throw me off the course. They are already issuing ultimatums to a couple of students, who are just as bad as me. I think I'm getting a little leeway at the moment because the department knew I was going into hospital last night and was worrying about it. What's keeping me going really is the idea of the year abroad...though the fact that I'm not going to get better has stumped me. I'm in pain a lot, and I can't concentrate on my Japanese side of my degree. Ironically, English, which I don't have the grades to do single honours...I'm doing really well at. I don't want to quit Japanese, but if the English department would accept me on a single honours degree then I might consider it, because I'm not coping. What I was told yesterday was that yes, my ulcurs have cleared up, but the problem is actually more serious. I have: 1. Gastritus (can be cleared up with antibiotics) 2. Several hernias. 3. Acid Reflux disease (will need to be on medication the rest of my life. The doctors at the hospital have decided that there is no point me having an operation to remove the hernias because they will just come back, and instead I'm getting stronger pain medication. The underlying problem is anatomical, because my stomach is basically deformed, with the entrance from my gullet to my stomach being too big, and a couple of other less serious bits. So I will get these problems for the rest of my life. They will treat the problems, and they can operate on my stomach and fix it, but it is a very serious op, and they don't want to do it for few years.

I got a untimatum for Japanese and stupid me is too hungover form japsoc party to go in today (sturggles with asia pacific essay instead) so sorry to hear about that christie, but does the medication work, as in , you can't really feel any pain? In which case maybe you could try condition yourself to forget about things, best you can, and look forward to Japan. I am sure you will make it, as my philosophy is, if so many of us are struggling the dept is forced to rethink the speed of it/help those who are struggling, or maybe that is just wishful thinking on my behalf.

Shit. That is a complete and utter bugger. About switching to single honours? Have you been and spoken to the English dept? I'm sure that they might consider it if you're doing well this year etc? Obviously then you miss out on the year in Japan (would that work out ok with the stomach problems anyway). Oh, and something else I heard that will probably not be good news for you "warned" Jap students - though I don't have off a confirmed source. Apparently there are far far too few places available in Japan in comparision to the number of students. I honestly can't believe the dept has fucked up that badly, but who knows? Anyway, for my personal expression of rage - 3 things. a) the fucking ARC. I will actually kill them one day. I was supposed to be doing a Film Showing for my other society, I specifically asked for the cable that links up to the speakers. The reply I got was along the lines of "Oh, it'll work just fine with the cable from laptop to projector we've given you". I knew it was bullshit, so I took along my speakers anyway. Lo and behold, it didn't fucking work - good thing I had my trusty speakers.....but wait, b) Not a single person turned up. Not one. I got there 25mins early to make sure everything would work. Was supposed to start at 7pm. No-one turned up. Waited until half past and thought "fuck it, I'll go home". But then I thought...."hang on, maybe people are confused because the first showing was at 8pm" So I waited until 8. Until 8.15 just in case. But no. So I wasted almost 2 hours, had carried a ton of stuff up to uni, especially untangled my speakers from my desk, and for absolutely fucking nothing. The only good point of it was that I just put on my iTunes and did some salsa practice for an hour of it. c) GRRRR! My other committee are just pissing me off. I seem to be doing bloody everything. Take salsa today for example. I had to get there early and clear an entire half of the refectory (i.e stack up all the chairs and move them. Move all the tables to the side)....by myself! Our treasurer decided to volunteer on a Wed so can't be there until 5.30 (not much use when there's 60 people trying to pay you at 5pm). President turned up for 20mins (did have a meeting that went on, if I'm being fair). Social sec and vice-pres - fuck knows! Ditto with me being the only one to do the film night. The ARC staff all know who am I because I am there pretty much every day sorting out something for one of my societies, and I'm pretty sure they all hate me because half the time I'm having to politley complain because something else has screwed up. So...that's my rage. Apart from it's almost as if I can't be bothered to rage anymore - this has been happening since the beginning of term. It's pretty much the norm to be fucked over now. How the hell does anything get done in this uni?!
